Roman Imperial – Silver Denarius of Trajan
Obv: IMP TRAIANO AVG GER DAC PM TRP, laureate bust right.
Rev: COS V PP SPQR OPTIMO PRINC, trophy of arms mounted on palm stump.
109 AD. · Rome Mint · RIC 147
3.2g · 18mm
The coin shows a light coppery sheen, a natural effect seen on many high-purity early Imperial denarii. Over long burial, trace copper within the silver alloy can migrate to the surface and form a thin, stable copper-oxide film.
