Pennies issued during the reign of Richard the Lionheart (1189–1199) are notable for their crude and often irregular style, reflecting the rushed minting practices of the time. Despite being struck under Richard’s authority, these coins continue to bear the name **HENRICVS**, a legacy of his father Henry II, as the coinage design and legend were not updated to reflect the new monarch.
