Roman Imperial Silver Denarius of Hadrian
Obv: HADRIANVS AVG COS III P P, Head of Hadrian, right.
Rev: ITALIA, Italia standing left, holding sceptre and cornucopia
130 – 133 AD. · Rome Mint · RIC 1541
3.2g · 17mm
The coin shows a light coppery sheen, a natural effect seen on many high-purity early Imperial denarii. Over long burial, trace copper within the silver alloy can migrate to the surface and form a thin, stable copper-oxide film.
