Roman Imperial Silver Denarius of Antoninus Pius
Obv: ANTONINVS AVG PIVS PP, bare head right
Rev: TR P COS II, sprinkler, jug, lituus and simpulum.
139 AD. · Rome Mint · RIC 45
3.3g · 18mm
The coin shows a light coppery sheen, a natural effect seen on many high-purity early Imperial denarii. Over long burial, trace copper within the silver alloy can migrate to the surface and form a thin, stable copper-oxide film.
